George Churpakovich, 91, of Holiday City South, Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 11, 2024 with his daughters by his side.
He was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ, before moving to Sayreville to start his family. He was a devoted husband, father and friend. His greatest joy in life was raising his girls, Gail and Debbie. He was happiest when he was with them and nothing came before them.
Upon his retirement they moved to Berkeley Twp. in 1995.
George was a United States Navy Korean War Veteran, who was proud of his service and loved his country.
He was a hardworking Electrician at Engelhard Industries in Carteret, NJ for many years before his retirement.
George was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 2061, Sayreville, NJ.
He was a member of the VFW Post 10185, Berkeley Twp. and the American Legion Post 211, Sayreville, NJ.
George was very active within the Holiday City South clubhouse and community. He was a member of numerous Holiday City South clubs, including Italian American, the Polish American, Bocce, Pool, Golf and men’s Clubs. The most near and dear to his heart was playing Mah Jong with the ladies and Pinochle with the guys.
He loved the game of golf but didn’t take it too seriously. It was about spending time with friends and the hot dogs that were always a part of the day. He loved to dance, especially a Polka, Cha Cha or a Merengue.
George was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Sophie “Honey” (nee Zinna) in 2005, and his daughter Jill Ann in 1972.
He is survived by his two daughters Gail Howell and her husband Glen of Toms River, Debra Campbell and her husband Jim of Freehold, NJ, four treasured grandchildren Alexandra Tucker and her husband Dylan, Aaron Howell, Jack Campbell, Abigail Campbell, as well as many loving members of the Churpakovich and Zinna families.
