Sally Bittel Obituary

Sally Ann Bittel 85 of Ashburn, Virginia, formerly of Toms River, NJ, died at home on Palm Sunday, March 24, 2024.  Born in Paterson, NJ she summered in Seaside Park throughout her youth, and after marriage, she was a longtime resident of Toms River where she was a parishioner of St. Justin the Martyr Roman Catholic Church since it was established.   Sally was a Kindergarten Teacher at Walnut Street Elementary School for 23 years, and working with “the little ones” brought her tremendous joy.  She brought patience, kindness, and thoughtfulness to all aspects of her life through her faith-filled heart.

An avid traveler with a wide range of interests, Sally was always ready for an adventure as she traveled the world with her husband, Raymond, her daughter, Beth, and her dear friends.   Musical theater was also a lifelong passion which Sally enjoyed in NYC, Washington, DC and London, and she became a true art lover as her annual overseas junkets with Beth were frequently planned to see specific works of art around the world.

Predeceased by her loving husband Raymond in 2004, she is survived by her beloved daughter Beth Bittel of Vienna, Virginia, her sister-in-law Gail Bittel, of Ashburn, Virginia, cousins, and countless friends in New Jersey and Virginia.

Family and friends will gather on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals at 995 Fischer Blvd, Toms River, NJ from 9am to 11am with the Funeral Mass for Sally at 11:15am at St. Justin the Martyr Roman Catholic Church at 975 Fischer Blvd.  All are welcome for the entombment at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, 62 Cedar Grove Rd., Toms River, NJ,  immediately following the Mass, and thereafter, for a celebration of her life at Enzo’s Cafe Italia, 2414 NJ-37, Toms River, NJ.

Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Justin the Martyr Roman Catholic Church or to the Parkinson’s Foundation.  Condolences may be sent to www.ryanfuneralhome.com
