Obituary for David Joseph Brown

David Joseph Brown of Lavallette passed away on January 31, 2019. Dave was born on August 15,1937, in Englewood, N.J. to Florence Cutler Brown and Frederick Stanley Brown.
Dave was a lifelong employee for Bell Atlantic, serving as an electrician and a telephone systems engineer. Dave also served 6 years in the 104th Engineer Battalion of the New Jersey National Guard. Upon his retirement, Dave was an active member of his community. He served on the Community Emergency Response Team, served as a volunteer for Ortley Beach First Aid, and was a member of the West Point Island Civic Association. Dave also took pleasure in serving meals and volunteering at Simon’s Soup Kitchen. He enjoyed fishing and sailing on Barnegat Bay and was a member of the Lavallette Yacht Club. Dave also was a member of the Board of Trustees of Union Church. He absolutely loved the New York Giants and was a devoted fan even when they were losing!
Dave was preceded in death by his first wife, Jonell (Bonnie) Burk Brown, his son, Jeffrey D. Brown, and his brother, Walter Brown. Dave will be missed by many. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Barbara Brown (Bobbie), his step children, Karen (Tom) Lyons, David (Sallie) Ivin, and Jill (Casey) Moton; grandchildren Casey and Mitch Lyons, Melissa and Amy Ivin, and Daniel and Kelly Moton; sisters Olive Peterson and Florence Pontillo, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend a church service on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 10:30am at Union Church of Lavallette, 25 Philadelphia Ave., Lavallette, N.J., 08735.
