Anthony Catananzi Obituary

Anthony L. Catananzi, 94, passed from this life peacefully on Sunday, March 10, 2024.  Anthony was born November 16, 1929 in Jersey City to the late Carmine and Giavanna Catananzi.  He was a loving husband and devoted father.  He enjoyed playing and watching his favorite baseball team, New York Yankees.  He spent his time enjoying doling crossword puzzles and trips to Atlantic City.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. 

Anthony was a past World War Veteran who fought in 2 wars. He served in Germany, Korea and Alaska. Anthony was an avid singer and bowler. He also played softball well into his 70’s. He retired after 26 years from Jackson, NJ school system maintenance department. Before that, he worked at Pabst Blue Ribbon and Ballantine Brewery. From an early age he was a loyal fan and supporter of his all-time favorite baseball team, The NY Yankees. In fact, as a young man, he tried out for the team. He also enjoyed visiting Atlantic City and Freehold Raceway. Anthony will be remembered as a loyal friend and family man, whose loss will be mourned by all who knew him.

Anthony is predeceased by his parents, Carmine P. Catananzi; Giavanna Tamburri; sons, Eugene Catananzi; Michael Catananzi; daughter Jennifer Catananzi and sister Theresa Tallarida.

Anthony is survived by his spouse, Norma Pruden Catananzi; son, Carmine Catananzi and his wife Kathy of Whiting; stepson, Frank Russell and is wife Lisa of New Jersey; Jerry Russell of South Carolina; step daughter Sharon Khan and her husband Michael of Florida. Sister, Dolorata Snyder and husband John.  Nephew, John Snyder and wife Rhonda, Nephew, Michael Tallarida and wife Carolann and Nephew, Frank Tallarida.  6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, March 16, 2024 from 2pm to 4pm at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.  Committal Services will be held privately.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
