Anthony “Tony” Gallo, 93, of Lewes, DE, formerly of Lavallette, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, September 15, 2025.
Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in Bloomfield, NJ for 30 years then Lavallette, NJ for 31 years before moving to Delaware a year ago.
Tony served 2 years in the United States Marine Corps.
He was a Payroll Supervisor at Maher Terminal in Elizabeth, NJ for many years. He was a member of the International Longshoremen’s Association Local #1.
Tony was involved in several civic and charitable endeavors; Councilman in Bloomfield for 10 years, Standard Bearer of The Tony Gallo Association, Officer in the Bloomfield Chapter of UNICO, Benefactor of St. John the Baptist Home for Foster Children, member of St. Pio Holy Name Society where he served as altar boy and usher, active member of The Knights of Columbus, longtime volunteer at Simon’s Soup Kitchen and Special Advisor to the Mayor of Lavallette.
Tony played professional baseball for the Brooklyn Dodger farm system. He was appointed to the NJ Governors Council on Physical Fitness and Senior and Special Olympics.
Tony is survived by his wife of 70 years, Doris (nee Giantomas), two children, Annmarie Westerfield and her husband Robert of Lewes DE, Michael Gallo and his wife Janine of Old Bridge, NJ, five grandchildren, Alison D’Amato and her husband Victor, Nicholas Gallo and his wife Amy, Matthew Gallo and his wife Rachel, Ryan Westerfield and his wife Kristin, Casandra Andrew and her husband Josh. Tony had eight great grandchildren Vivian, Emma, Zoey, Quinn, Charles, Olivia, Luke and Margot.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 21, 2025 3:00pm – 8:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday, September 22, 2025 10:00am at the Parish of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, Lavallette, NJ. Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
