Barbara Theresa Flanagan

Barbara T Flanagan, 82 of Toms River, NJ passed away at home on Wednesday, August 16, 2023.  Barbara was born in Jersey City, NJ to the late George A and Theresa Bittmann.  She was a loving sister, wife, devoted mother and grandmother.  After graduating from St. Aloysius High School in Jersey City, she worked for AT&T. Married in 1962, she became a homemaker, leaving the workforce to raise her family. She returned to work as a receptionist in a dental and medical office. Later, she worked as a designer in a florist shop. After her husband Robert retired, they moved to Toms River in 1996.

Barbara enjoyed arts and crafts, particularly knitting and sewing, making blankets and outfits for her children and grandchildren. More recently she enjoyed sitting on the patio reading or chatting with neighbors, working jigsaw puzzles, attending meetings for the fishing and sewing clubs, playing Mah Jong and going to dinner with friends.

Barbara is predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Robert J Flanagan.

Barbara is survived by her brother, George W Bittmann of Gibsonville, NC, her children, Michael and his wife, Yvonne of Closter; Thomas W Flanagan and his wife, Christine of New Egypt and Theresa B Flanagan of Jackson; four grandchildren; Patrick and wife Carly, Alaina and husband James Hearon, Eric and Brandon and wife Angela; and two great grandchildren, Crew and Kai Hearon.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, August 28, 2023 from 2pm to 6pm at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am, Tuesday, August 29, 2023 at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Toms River with burial to follow at BG William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown.
