Bartholomew J. Coleman, 84, of West Point Island, Lavallette, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Bart is survived by his loving wife of 59 yrs Theresa (nee Callanan), his four children Jennifer, Barbara Anne (Greg), Bartholomew D. (Klara), Matthew (Alicia), and his nine grandchildren Daniel, Maggie, Bartholomew M., Owen, Isabella, Jason, Elizabeth, Kaitlyn, and Liam. He is also survived by his sister Maureen Carnovsky (Robert) their children and predeceased by his sister Rita and parents Bartholomew and Margaret (nee Morrison).
Bart was a first generation Irish American born and raised in the New York City (Bronx). Attending Mount Saint Michael Academy High School then Fordham University where he received his undergraduate degree(‘64) and later his MBA(‘88). After graduating in 1964, he took a position in finance with Brooklyn Union Gas; spending his entire career there, retiring in 1998.
Bart had many titles in his life: son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed running, traveling, music and sports. He was a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley, the New York Mets, and Giants. He was known for his quick wit. He was asked recently what he was up to and he answered “about 6ft”.
Bart was most proud of the life he created with his love Theresa. From their start on Mosholu Parkway to Bullard Drive, they shared adventures, laughter and most importantly love and faith. He passed his life experiences on to his children and grandchildren with a generosity that will be remembered and carried on for generations.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, February 25, 2026 3:00pm – 6:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday, February 26, 2026 10:00am at the Parish of St. Pio of Pietrelcina, Lavallette, NJ.
