Benedict J. Scasserra, 94, of Seaside Park, New Jersey, passed from this life peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, with his loved ones at his bedside.
Ben was born on December 31, 1930, in Hillside, New Jersey to the late Anthony and Edith Scasserra. He was a loving husband, and a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Ben graduated from Hillside High School, where he was a standout athlete, earning All-State honors in baseball and starting as a safety on the school’s state championship football team. He spent his freshman year at Bowling Green State University, before transferring and graduating from New York University’s Stern School of Business. Ben was a lifetime member of Sigma Chi Fraternity.
He enjoyed attending boxing matches, being ringside for bouts featuring Evander Holyfield, George Foreman, Riddick Bowe, Arturo Gatti, Roberto Duran, and Lennox Lewis.
He was an avid golfer and skier and had a passion for gardening. He served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Korean War, from 1953 to 1955.
Ben was a self-made businessman who founded National Display Company in the 1960s and later owned Sun Flow Distributing.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Ben is predeceased by his parents, Anthony Scasserra; Edith Carasia Scasserra; wife, Blanche McKay Scasserra and sister, Dolly Barone.
Ben is survived by his son, Benny Scasserra of Hawthorne; daughters Judy Morrison and her husband Jack of Middlesex; Joanne Scasserra and husband Gary Friedman of Brick; Janice Veglia and her husband Ralph of Palm Coast, Florida; Jacqueline Rinaldi and her husband John of Toms River; grandchildren Joseph, Janine, Dylan, Skylar, Jimmy, Joshua, Christopher and Kyle; and great grandchildren Kendall and Cecilia.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, July 24, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 809 NW Central Avenue in Seaside Park, NJ. A Mass of Catholic Burial will follow at 10 a.m., Thursday, July 24, 2025, at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Seaside Park, with Entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River.
