Bernice M. (Rehbein) Schafer

Bernice Mary (Rehbein) Schafer, 90 of Toms River, NJ passed away peacefully at home on Sunday April 17, 2022 surrounded by her family that loved her so very much. 

Bernice was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ before moving to Bricktown, NJ in 1972 and then to Toms River, NJ in 1997. Bernice was a Librarian in Jersey City, NJ, Britt’s Department Store in Bricktown, NJ while raising her children and then at Ocean Federal Savings Bank in Bricktown, NJ before retiring in 1997. Bernice loved being on the beach and reading good books, but most of all her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

Bernice is preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph of 45 years and all her siblings, Florence, Irene, Frederick, Lorraine and Jean Marie.

She is survived by her children Joseph and his wife Michele of Seaside Park, NJ, Tom and his wife MaryAnne of Rumson, NJ, Kathleen Lombardo of Toms River, NJ, Jackie O’Keefe of Toms River, NJ and Lynn Turner and her husband Gary of Toms River, NJ. Bernice was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. 

Please join us in celebrating her life for a Mass at St. Catharine of Siena RC Church, Seaside Park, NJ on Friday April 22, 2022 at 10 am. Interment will follow to St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Toms River, NJ.
