CARLOS ENRIQUE CORTEZ

Engineer, Carlos Enrique Cortez, 65, a longtime resident from Toms River, passed away in the company of his beloved family on Saturday, March 27, 2021. Born on July 29, 1955, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Carlos was the son of Carlos Cortez and Olga Bassanini. He studied engineering at the Universidad Catòlica de Ecuador for six years. Carlos was known as a handworker to always provide for his family and showed his love, kindness and compassion for them every day. He was the father that always taught his own children to speak the truth and do everything with love especially cooking. Sundays were his favorite because he would enjoy eating dinner with his family. Carlos never forgot to give his children their daily blessings.
One of Carlos’ favorite things to watch was the Barcelona soccer team in Ecuador. His favorite holiday was celebrating Christmas with his family and cooking his famous Russian salad and turkey. During the afternoons, Carlos could be found watching Novelas or action movies with his wife, Norma. A family man, his greatest joy was the time he spent with his cherished grandchildren playing futbolín, playing hide and seek, singing songs together and other family activities.
A beloved son, brother, husband and father, Carlos is survived by his parents Carlos Cortez and Olga Bassanini, his brothers and sisters Hernan, Miguel, Gisella, Sylvia, his wife Norma Drouet, his children Carlos Javier Cortez, Estefania P. Eldridge and Giovanni D. Cortez, grandchildren Carlo Josue, Javier Esteban, Glorisbeth, Sofia, Carina, Will, Catalina and Kyla as well as nieces and nephews and many wonderful friends. Carlos was predeceased by his brother Angel Cortez Bassanini.
Funeral home services will begin on Thursday afternoon, April 1, 2021 at 2pm at the Timothy E Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River, NJ 08755 followed by a mass at 3pm.
