Christine Capozzoli Raso passed away peacefully on Saturday morning. Chris was born in Manhattan but spent most of her life in New Jersey. She graduated from the College of St. Elizabeth, Covent Station, New Jersey in 1952. She met her husband, Jerry Raso while in college and they married in 1954.
While raising four children, Chris earned a Master’s Degree in Applied Science from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1976 and retired from teaching after more than 30 years. During her teaching career, Chris taught mathematics at various levels including two levels of AP Calculus. She was devoted to her students and her profession, tutoring students to attain a G.E.D during her retirement.
Chris and Jerry Raso were mainstays on Long Beach Island where they owned a home for more than fifty years. With their four children, their home was welcoming to all, including many friends who visited every year enjoying her fabulous home cooked meals. In Loveladies, they enjoyed boating and waterskiing. In addition, she and Jerry loved the beach where they often created a circle of friends for conversation and daily swimming. Many days were spent at the Long Beach Island Foundation of the Arts and Sciences and serving as a docent at the Barnegat Light Historical Museum as well as evenings with friends.
They moved from their home in Franklin Lakes to Holmdel in 1996 where they lived for 14 years. While in Holmdel they enjoyed many friends and volunteered with the SAGE mentoring program. Many people in the Holmdel area would recognize them from interviews televised on the cable network in which Chris recounted her experiences in the years during World War II as a daughter of Congressman Louis J. Capozzoli from 1940 to 1944.
Christine will be remembered as a caring friend and a bright resourceful person who loved her husband, children and grandchildren without bounds. Chris was predeceased by her husband, Jerry Raso, her parents Louis and Adele Capozzoli and her brother, Louis J. Capozzoli. She leaves her sister, Gloria Barbieri (Rocco), her children Melinda Raso Kirstein (Philip) of Princeton, Dr. Carl Raso (Joan) of Loveladies, Dr. Louis Raso of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and Adele Raspe (Herman) of Greenwich, Connecticut, eleven grandchildren and two great granddaughters.
