Denise Hogan Obituary

Denise (nee O’Reilly) Hogan, 91, of Holiday Heights section of Berkeley Township was called home to the Lord peacefully on Monday, July 29, 2024.

She is survived by her loving husband James J. Hogan, her two daughters Anne Nedilsky and her husband Bohdan of West Milford, NJ., Patricia Kile and her husband Gregory of Sea Girt, N.J. and her brother; Frank O’Reilly (Mary) and her four beloved grandchildren; Christine (Jenya), Michael, Katherine, Kevin and many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents; Michael and Sarah (nee Keane) O’Reilly, her step mother Josephine (nee Benson) O’Reilly and her siblings Dympna, Brendan, Vincent, Michael and Aidan.

Denise was born in the village of Ballyvary ,County Mayo, Ireland in 1933. 

She received her Nursing Degree from Harefield Hospital in Harefield England. She emigrated to New York in 1956 where she was a Registered Nurse with St. Clare’s Hospital in New York City, NY.  Shortly thereafter, she met the love of her life, James and they were married in 1957. They resided in High Bridge, Bronx, NY.  They moved their family to Dumont, NJ and then retired to Holiday Heights 20 years ago.

Denise was a former Parishioner of St. Mary’s RC Church in Dumont, NJ where she was a member of the Rosary and Altar Society and their Bereavement Group. She was very proud of her Irish heritage and keeping traditions alive. She was a past President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Bergen Irish Association, and also a member of the Catholic Nurses Guild.  She served as Deputy Grand Marshall of the Bergenfield St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  She was awarded the honor of being the first Bergen Irish Woman of the Year. She was a Parishioner of St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River, NJ where she was a member of their Rosary Society. 

Denise always had a story and a joke for every occasion and met someone she knew where ever she traveled. She left us with her poetry, her stories and abundance of love.

The Family will receive friends and family on Tuesday August 6th from 3 pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 7th at 11:30 am at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River, NJ. Burial will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
