Diana Orlando Obituary

Diana J. Orlando was born in Newark, New Jersey to Giacomo and Odilia Rum. She was a beautiful, hardworking, and witty woman, Diana impacted the hearts of everyone around her with her humor and vibrant presence. She left her touch everywhere she went. You always knew when she was in the room.

Diana lived in Edison, New Jersey for 40 years before moving full-time to the family’s summer home in Lavallette, New Jersey, a place she truly loved. She served as an aide to the Newark Municipal Council and was a devoted parishioner of the Parish of St. Pio of Pietrelcina in Lavallette.

She loved music, especially disco, and had a deep appreciation for art, history, and learning. Diana was well versed in many subjects and continuously sought knowledge in her free time. She was a patriot who loved our country. She was also a passionate, environmental activist.

Diana was incredibly artistic. She had a gift for interior design, photography, and a special craft where she hand decorated seashells for display and gift giving. She loved antiquing and finding hidden treasures that she would restore and repurpose with her own creative touch. Her creativity and artistic talents live on throughout her home, where she took great pride in making every space beautiful and welcoming.

She loved to cook and was a true foodie. No one ever left her home hungry; Diana cared for everyone as her own and was a natural giver, generous with her time, her food, her creativity, and her love. She cherished her family deeply, enjoyed researching genealogy, and loved interacting with friends online and on Facebook, where she proudly served as an administrator of “The Corner Pub.” Diana loved shopping trips and visits to Atlantic City.

She was a courageous woman, admirable in the way she fought many health battles and brave enough to recognize when her fight had finished. Diana was and will always be a strong presence in the lives of those who loved her.

She is survived by her loving husband, Philip; her devoted children, Louis Turco (his wife Kristen), and Maria Gulyas and her husband John; and her three beloved grandchildren, Italia, Isabella, and Jake. She is also survived by her brother-in-law Donald Orlando and sister-in-law Louise DeLuca, and her godchildren, Tarun and Snehal.
