Dieter “Joe” Zipp, 84 of Ocean Beach I passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2024 after a short illness with his loving family by his side at Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was born May 12, 1940 in East Orange to Katherina and Anton Zipp and grew up in Union and Maplewood NJ. In 1966, he married the love of his life, Judith and they were married for 55 years prior to her passing. Dieter and Judi lived in Union before moving to Ocean Beach full-time in 2001.

He was the owner/operator of Zipp’s Autobody of Belleville for many years. After selling his business, he worked for various autobody shops before retiring. A natural storyteller, Dieter loved reminiscing about his earlier life in the 1960’s drag racing down Route 22 and hanging out at the carhops. He also loved the shore and was a proud member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge in Ortley and was previously on the Board of Trustees of the Ocean Beach Surf Club.
He loved everything about Ocean Beach, the shore life and his wonderful neighbors and friends. In addition, Dieter had a passion for playing golf with his buddies.
