Obituary
Dolores M. Schillace, 82, of Jackson, NJ, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 after bravely deciding she was ready to see her departed loved ones again. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Mary (Pensabene) Gentile. She raised her family in Staten Island, NY, before moving to Toms River for over twenty years. After her husband passed away, she moved to Delaware with her daughter Cindy before moving again to Jackson 1.5 years ago.
Dolores was a secretary in Staten Island and Manhattan, NY, for many years. She was predeceased by her husband Salvatore in 2019 and her sister Dorothy DeLuzio in 2008. Dolores is survived by her two children Cindy Scala and her husband Phil of Jackson, NJ, and Lynda Ross and her husband Bill of Columbia, CT, five grandchildren Matthew Scala (Andrew Berrios), Michael Scala (Christine Scala), Caitlyn Scala (Patrick Sprague), Amanda Ross, and Maddy Ross.
In her spare time, Dolores loved arts and crafts, particularly ceramics, and had a prodigious green thumb – in all likelihood all of her beloved plants won’t be far behind her (but we’ll certainly try our best). A lifelong animal lover, she spent her final years surrounded by all of her “grand pets,” mostly dogs and cats. Many appreciated her sharp wit and good-natured, sarcastic jokes she had ready for any occasion. At her core, she is a strong, brave, and caring soul who took care of her family in every way and always managed to look her best. She was at her most relaxed when sitting out in the sun and admiring nature.
A memorial gathering will be offered at a later date. Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals DeBow Chapel, 150 West Veterans Hwy, Jackson, NJ is in charge of the arrangements.
