Donald A Noffsinger, 97, of West Point Island, Lavallette NJ, passed away on May 12, 2026 with his beloved wife Lois at his side.
Born April 18, 1929 to Obert and Mazie Etter Noffsinger in Defiance, Ohio, he grew up on a farm quickly learning the importance of relationships and hard work. He was educated in business and finance, he received his MBA from Ball State University, and honorary doctorate from Anderson University. He served in Army Finance at Fort Benjamin Harrison, then progressed in civilian finance and administration positions in Chicago and Defiance, OH. While in Defiance, he met and married Birdie (George) Smith, a widowed mother of three young boys. They later were blessed with another son, and a year later moved to a new position in San Diego, CA. He then left a high administrative position to move to Anderson, IN to receive training to enter the missions field for The Church of God. While in missions training, he was asked to fill a temporary vacancy in finance at Warner Press, a Church of God owned Christian publishing company. A few years later he was asked to serve as president, a position he then served in for 28 years.
After retirement from Warner Press, he and Birdie as empty nesters moved to Mattawan, MI to be near grand-children. Never a man to sit still for more than a minute, he started a business for consulting and benefits coordination services for small to mid-sized businesses. Don’s wife Birdie, succumbed in 2008 to complications after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. To help others, he authored a book from the perspective of a spouse, family leader and expert in facilities and insurance benefits, titled “Where Did She Go?”. This book has served as a valued resource to many families battling this disease.
Don then met Lois Eberhart, a like minded, very active widow. They were married in 2013, and have enjoyed 13 very active years of world travel and enjoying time with their families.
Don’s life was guided since a young age in the knowledge of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This was shown in his value and interest in people and being active in many church and civic activities in each community lived in. These include church teaching and leadership, city council member, chairman of united fund campaign, president of optimist club, president of re-development commissions, member of board of directors of chamber of commerce, board member and treasurer of hospital, board of directors of local bank, and numerous other civic activities to “give back” to his communities and the people around him. He remained active with his wife Lois at All Saints Church in Bay Head, NJ until his death. His memory will continue to serve those he has served over the past years.
Don is survived by his wife Lois Eberhart, four children Mark, M.D. of Mattawan. MI, Greg Smith of East Stroudsburg, PA, Ron Smith of Anderson, Indiana, and Randall Smith of Noblesville, Indiana, as well as Lois’s 2 daughters and their combined 17 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Services are private and under the direction of the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 706 Grand Central Ave, Lavallette, NJ.
Information will be coming soon for his Celebration of Life in both Lavallette, NJ and Anderson, IN.
