E. John Hammell, 63, a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
John found his greatest joy by the water. Whether it was the sound of the waves, the salty air, or the peace of being on the water, the ocean was where his heart felt most at home. That love for the sea reflected who he was - calm, steady, and deeply appreciative of life's simple pleasures.
Above all else, John cherished his family. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Diane, and a proud father to his children, Zachary and wife Colleen, Courtney and fiance Anthony, Brittany, and Bailey. His grandchildren, Kevin, Liam, and Oliver, were a constant source of happiness and pride, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He also shared a special bond with his loyal dog, Harbor, who was always by his side.
John will be remembered for his love, his warmth, and his ability to make those around him feel at ease. His legacy lives on in the family he adored, the memories he created, and the shoreline that will forever echo his spirit. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
He was predeceased by his parents Edward J. Sr. and Hazel Hammell.
John is survived by his wife of 35 years Diane (nee Keane), his four children Zachary and wife Colleen, Courtney and fiance Anthony, Brittany and Bailey, two sisters Joy Clancey of Lakeland, FL, and Dawn Franzese of Gettysburg, PA, a brother James Hammell of Medford, OR, three grandchildren Kevin, Liam and Oliver, and his beloved dog Harbor.
