Edward James O’Connor, known as EddieO of Silver Ridge Park North section of Berkeley Township passed away on Saturday August 26, 2023, at the age of 84, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on July 14, 1939, in Queens, NY he lived in Rahway, NJ and has been a resident of Berkeley Township for 19 years.
Edward was a graduate of St. Peter’s High School, New Brunswick, NJ. He was appointed to the Rahway Fire Department in 1964, retired as Deputy Chief in 1992. As a member of the RFD, he received an Associates Degree in Fire Science Technology from Union College, Cranford, NJ. He was an instructor at Union County Fire School, and the instructor in Fire Science Degree Program at Union College, Cranford, NJ. Ed was a Charter Member of Union County Arson Unit, and a member of New Jersey State Safety Council. In 1983 Ed was awarded “Medal of Distinction for Outstanding Service” with the Union County Arson Unit by John H. Stamler, Union County Prosecutor. Ed was always generous with his time, he was a volunteer as an AARP Tax Aide, and involved in many community activities. Ed also enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and he loved doing crossword puzzles.
He was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Edna O’Connor and brother Daniel. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Joan (Bachmann) O’Connor, his three sons; Edward (Dina) of Iselin, NJ, John (JoAnn) of Hillsborough, NJ, Robert (Rita) of Sparta, NJ his daughter; Patricia Senus (Greg) of Crossville, TN, his sister; Dolores Cosquer and her husband Armand and seven magnificent grandchildren, Lauren, Evan, Michael, Grace, Kathleen, Allison and Arthur.
Family will receive friends on Friday September 8, 2023, from 4pm to 7pm at The Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 145 St. Catherine Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Mass will be celebrated on Saturday September 9, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Maximilian RC Church, Berkeley Township, NJ. Committal will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Edward’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
