Edward P. Reilly, 93, of Harrogate in Lakewood, passed away Monday, June 7th at his home. Born in Elizabeth, he resided in Avenel for 35 years, then spent 21 years at Lake Ridge in Toms River before moving to Harrogate three years ago.
Edward received his bachelor’s degree from Rutgers University and worked as a client coordination manager in Information Technology for Exxon for 39 years in Linden, NYC and Florham Park. Edward was a parishioner of St. Luke’s RC Church, Toms River.
In his early years, Ed was an industrial league fast pitch softball player and enjoyed bowling. He volunteered at the Avenel/Colonia First Aid Squad where he was a CPR instructor. He was a member of the Avenel St. Andrew’s Knights of Columbus. While at Lake Ridge, Ed enjoyed social activities such as the Wine and Italian clubs. He also was a huge New York Giants fan.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 66 years, Joan Reilly and his son-in-law Stephen Ballantyne. Edward is survived by his five children and their spouses Kathleen and Raymond Halpin of Washington Borough, Susan and Terrence Garrity of Seaside Park, Maureen and Wayne Peragallo of Seaside Park, Kevin and Valerie Reilly of Whitehouse Station and Mary Ellen Ballantyne and Shane Swenson of Beachwood.
He loved his 14 grandchildren, Matthew, Michael and his wife Jessica, Scott and his wife August, Adam and his wife Megan, Daniel and his wife Angela, Jeffrey and his fiancée Mallory, Blake, Derek, Zachary, William, Jessica, Erin, Rebecca, and Shane Alan, four great grandchildren Connor, Weston, Wren and Arthur.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, June 14th from 8:30am – 10:00am at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 809 Central Ave., Seaside Park. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Luke’s RC Church, Toms River at 10:30am. Burial to follow at St. Gertrude Cemetery in Colonia.
