Elizabeth "Betty" (Durante) Bartolf

Elizabeth A. (Durante) Bartolf, “Betty Boop”, 80, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. Born in Greystone Park, NJ and raised in West Long Branch, NJ. She graduated from Long Branch High School in 1959. She worked as a receptionist for EAI in Eatontown, NJ where she met her future husband. They married in 1965 and started their family living briefly in Shark River Hills before moving to Bricktown, NJ, to raise their daughters. She studied fine arts, astrology, and psychology at Ocean County College. After her husband’s passing she later retired and settled in Whiting, NJ over 20 years ago.

Betty was a devoted wife and loving mother, lucky enough to have spent 25 years with the love of her life, George M. Bartolf Jr. before he passed away, and another 16 years with her friend & companion, Robert K Heale of Whiting, NJ. She loved to dote on her granddaughter, Alexandra P. Jacob, and continued to love, support, & guide her daughters, Jennifer L. Jacob of Lakehurst, NJ and Julie L. Bartolf of Bricktown, NJ.

Betty was “such a light”, “a lot of fun!”, and “A wonderful Friend.” Looking at the bright side of life, always willing to lend an ear, a helping hand, or a shoulder to cry on. If you were down, she’d do what she could to pick you back up. You could find her looking to make the most out of a day traveling to interesting or unique places and shops, up and down the Jersey Shore, visiting craft shows, festivals, lighthouses, concerts on the beach, and her favorite restaurants like Sandy’s Cozy Corner in Lakehurst, NJ. You might even catch her doing a line dance or two.

In her younger years she spent time painting, sketching, and crafting beautiful baskets for her family and for craft shows, as well as homemade hand sewn Halloween costumes for her two daughters. She had an avid love of all things astrology. Known in certain circles as “Readings by Elizabeth”, she learned to read tarot cards as her retirement side hustle, crystal ball and all.

Some of her prouder moments include showing off her trophy for winning 1st place in a beauty contest, telling the story of how she changed her own headlight on her car, working in the sporting goods department at K-mart for many years, working as a receptionist for PRA International in Redbank, NJ, and as an outpatient representative for Ocean Medical Center in Bricktown, NJ. She was especially proud of her decorating skills as her elegant home was adorned with roses and many pictures of her beautiful Granddaughter.

Her bright shiny spirit will forever be missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents Theodore Durante and Antoinette (Malanga) Durante, her siblings Theodore Durante Jr., Maryann Thomas, and Dolores Durante, as well as her son-in-law James E. Jacob.

Betty will be forever held in the hearts of her loving family; her daughter’s, Granddaughter, her sister Antoinette Durante, her brother Michael Durante, and former son-in-law Thomas A. Rogan.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River, NJ.
