Elko Landberg (71) of Island Heights, NJ, passed away Tuesday May 19, 2026. Born in Busum, West Germany, he immigrated with his parents and sister to America when he was a baby and grew up on Nottingham Dr in Brick, NJ. He graduated from Brick High School (known as “Old Brick”), attended Ocean County College, and worked for many years in the construction industry doing drywall, helping to build many houses and businesses along the Jersey Shore throughout his career, including his own family home in Island Heights.
Elko’s father (Walter Landberg) was a fisherman, and Elko spent much of his childhood and young adult life with his dad working on fishing boats such as The McGinty between Point Pleasant and Cape May. Elko loved fishing, eating seafood, going to Island Beach State Park with his family, and sitting at the Manasquan inlet watching the fishing vessels go in and out of port.
Fishing and music were his two biggest passions; he attended many concerts throughout his life including shows by Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, and even George Harrison’s Concert for Bangladesh in 1971. He was a devoted fan of countless artists and bands such as Cream, The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Led Zeppelin, The Grateful Dead, and especially The Beatles. In his later years he enjoyed cooking, camping with his family, and baseball season when he could watch the Yankees play.
Elko is survived by his wife of 45 years, Rennie, his son EJ, his daughter Nicole, and his grandson Zachary. He will be missed deeply by his family and friends who (as Elko would say) will remember him as one wild and crazy guy.
