Eunice M. Essig died on May 12, 2023. She was born to Michael and Mary Begany on July 16, 1923. Eunice graduated from Battin High School, Elizabeth NJ in 1941. She then went on to become a secretary for the CPA Firm of Brief, Lyn, Brief in Newark, NJ until her marriage to Charles Essig in 1946. She also volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Bank for ten years and was a parishioner of St. Joseph RC Church for 47 years. Eunice was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she was selfless and always wanted the light to shine on everyone else. She loved cooking, entertaining family & friends, sewing, gardening, and many crafts. She was an avid sports fan who loved the NY Mets and NY Giants and spending Sundays with her husband watching all the games.
Eunice was predeceased by her husband Charles, her parents, sisters Helen, Ann, and Elsie, and brothers Albert, and Arthur. She is survived by daughter Nancy (Bernard) Smith, son Donald (Carol) Essig, 5 grandchildren, Michael, Christopher, Kelly, Brian, and Patrick, 5 great¬grandchildren, Michael, Mathew, Dylan, Summer, Aidan, and 1 great-great-grandson, Brayden.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday May 19, 2023 10am at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River, NJ. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Red Cross (redcross.org) or Catholic Relief Services ( crs.org).
