George Carty Obituary

George Whitfield Carty, 97, of Holiday City Berkeley, passed away peacefully Sunday, August 1, 2021 at home with his wife by his side.

Born in Trenton, he lived in NJ his whole life, with the exception of 2 years, spent working for the United States’ Government in Panama. George and Ginny created a loving home and life for their daughters. Whether it was watching baseball games, talking about canoeing, spending time in nature or finding the best road to take home, George always knew where his heart was, she was sitting right next to him. Each morning he would kiss her and say he was the luckiest man in the whole world.

George lived an exceptional life with many accomplishments and achievements. Besides being a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he also served our country proudly in WWII. George loved his country and was proud to have served on the USS Bunker Hill, was a lifelong member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign War and was Chief X-Ray Technician at Walson Army Hospital at Fort Dix NJ. This great man proudly wore his USS Bunker Hill hat everywhere he went.

Among countless other achievements, George was a member and commodore of the Mohawk Canoe Club, Trenton, NJ for 58 years. He and Virginia were avid canoers paddling all 50 states with 17,000 documented miles on the water.

He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Virginia (nee Addari), two daughters Kathy Carty Mullen and her husband John and Patricia Rogers of Lanoka Harbor, NJ; a sister Emma Pensch of FL; three grandchildren, Karen Ferlisi, husband Joe, KC Rogers, wife Cadie and Karina Branson, husband Spencer and five great grandchildren Kenny, Natalie, Evelyn, Nathaniel and Abigail as well as several nieces and nephews.

With respect to George’s wishes he will be cremated and there will be no public services. If you would like to make a donation in George’s name, please donate to the American Legion Post 129 at 2025 Church Road, Toms River, NJ 08753.
