George Michael Mascera, 1943-2025
George Michael Mascera, a beloved father, grandfather, and a man of great faith, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on September 18, 2025. He is now reunited with his wife and high school sweetheart, Janet Mascera, and his son, Joseph. Janet, his love since they were sixteen, passed away on May 1, 2018.
Born in Bloomfield, New Jersey, on October 17, 1943, George was a proud New Jersey native who made Toms River his home in the 1970s. For over four decades as the owner of ERA American Towne Realty, he was a trusted leader in the local real estate community. While he helped countless families find their perfect home, he was also a mentor, inspiration, and friend to all those who were lucky enough to work with and for him.
His commitment to his faith was a cornerstone of his life and a well-respected part of Saint Justin's parish. George served as a CCD teacher for 15 years, a Eucharistic Minister, a member of the red shirts, and a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, George served his country during the Vietnam era, stationed in Germany. His time there allowed him and Janet to travel through Europe, a passion they continued on with the many cruises they sailed on together over the years.
George will be remembered for his kindness, his sharp wit, and the deep love he held for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of cherished memories and will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa Hicks, and her husband, Christopher Hicks; and his grandchildren, Angelina, Karina, Nathaniel and Remy. He is preceded in death by his wife, Janet Mascera, and his son, Joseph Mascera, who passed away in May 2025.
A viewing will be held at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial to honor and celebrate George's life will be held at St. Justin the Martyr Church, Fischer Blvd, Toms River on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at 9:30a.m. with a burial service to follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
