George G. Murphy, 89, of Toms River, NJ, passed away Monday, September 2, 2024.
He was born in Jersey City, NJ, and he lived in Union City, NJ before moving to Toms River in 1974.
George retired from the Union City Fire Department as Deputy Fire Chief after 26 years of service. After retirement he worked for the New Jersey Bureau of Fire Safety.
He was a member of the FMBA, the NJ Fire Chiefs Association, was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, was co-founder of the Jersey Shore Irish American Club and was a parishioner of St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River.
George was predeceased by the love of his life Lois Funky Murphy in 2013 and his sister Eileen Prospero.
He is survived by his three children Karen Breitweiser and her husband Mark of Manahawkin, NJ, Susan Langworthy and her husband Robert of Barnegat, NJ, and Janice Ryan and her husband John of Toms River, seven grandchildren Daniel, David, Krista, Shannon, Julie, Christopher, Kevin, and seven beautiful great grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday 3:00pm – 6:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday 10:00am at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River. Entombment to follow at Ocean County Memorial Park, Toms River.
