Gerald "Jerry" Zegar Obituary

Gerald (Jerry) A. Zegar, 66, of Lavallette, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2021. Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in Bridgewater, NJ and Phoenix, AZ before moving to Lavallette with his family in 2001. Jerry graduated from Bridgewater West High School, Alliance College in Cambridge Springs, PA and The Chubb Institute. Jerry retired as a Basis Administrator at Merck in Whitehouse Station, NJ. His work allowed him to travel to countless places throughout the country and abroad. Jerry had a passion for life and was always ready for a good time. From hitchhiking to the 1976 Montreal Olympics to following the Grateful Dead through the desert on his motorcycle to tearing up the dance floor whenever possible, he truly lived life to the fullest. His greatest joy in life, however, was spending lazy days at the beach with his wife and children. He is preceded in death by his parents Eugene and Gladys (Byk) Zegar. Jerry is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen (O’Leary) Zegar, his children, Erin and her significant other Patrick, and Nicholas. Dear siblings, Eugene and his wife Fran, Michael and his wife Cecelia, Mary Jane and her significant other Thom; sister-in-law, Maureen and husband Jim; and so many nieces, nephews, cousins, fraternity brothers and friends all of whom he loved unconditionally. Before passing Jerry thoughtfully requested his mass and celebration of life be postponed until a safer time. His wish was for all to remain healthy. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to your local food bank or your favorite charity in Jerry’s name. All arrangements are private and entrusted to the care of the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 706 Highway 35 N, Lavallette, NJ. Condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.ryanfuneralhome.com
