Helen E. (Menton) Byrne

Helen Elizabeth Byrne (nee Menton), 92, of Lavallette, NJ peacefully passed at home on June 9, 2022 surrounded by her loving family.  Helen was born December 26, 1929 in Jersey City, NJ to William and Helen (nee Pierson) Menton.

In June 30, 1951 Helen married the love of her life, Austin Joseph Byrne (pre-deceased).   She is survived by sisters and best friends Mary Ann Messenger and Linda Schoepf.  Helen was a devoted and loving mother of six children:  Patricia Scott (Donald), David, Austin (Jennifer), Lizabeth McKenzie (John), Kathleen Cahill (Gary), and Michelle Byrne (Michael Sikorski).  Helen loved her 10 grandchildren, and her 7 great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, family, friends, and her very special friend & caregiver Asta Sulskiene.  As Helen would frequently say, you can’t buy what I have.

After her children had grown Helen began working at Nice Stuff for several years (because it’s all about the clothes, the deals, and the people). Then she worked at Prudential Insurance and retired after 10 years. Her favorite job was being a teacher’s aide at Hugh Boyd Elementary School, which she retired from after 18 years at the young age of 84 ½. 

The family will receive relative and friends on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 10:00am until the funeral service at 1:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 706 Grand Central Ave., Lavallette, NJ.  Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to St. Jude’s, Special Olympics, or Women Against Abuse, Inc.
