James A. Brandes, 80 of Jackson passed from this life peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2021. Jim was born April 19, 1940 in Hoboken to the late August “Auggie” and Frances Brandes. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather. He was raised in Fort Lee, NJ and graduated with the first class at Marist High School in Bayonne, NJ. He was known for his great sense of humor and was always quick with a joke or a reply. He is best known as a kind hearted man, who was quick to make friends and who was devoted to his family and dogs.
After high school Jim served in the Army and was stationed in Germany. In his younger years Jim enjoyed sailing and the outdoors, and believed he would have made a great park ranger. Upon return to the States he began a career on Wall Street. He worked as a stock broker for Prescott, Ball and Turban and left the profession in the mid-80s. Jim’s second career was as a real estate broker in New Jersey. Later in life he was an avid member of the flea market community. He enjoyed collecting and selling antiques at the market, always on the look-out for the next great buy.
Jim is predeceased by his beloved son, Christopher Michael Brandes. He is survived by his wife, Anne Hall Brandes of Jackson; son, Kevin; daughter, Colleen Hitchcock and her husband Kraig of Swampscott, Massachusetts; sisters, Denise Porier of Phoenix, Arizona; Michele Hemminger of Hollywood, Florida; grandchildren, Maeve, Quinn, and Hazel Hitchcock.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday, January 25, 2021 from 4pm to 8pm at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals DeBow Chapel, 150 W. Veterans Highway, Jackson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am, Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church, 935 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson. Committal services will be held privately.
