James J. Hogan , 91 of Holiday Heights section of Berkeley Township was called home to the Lord peacefully on Wednesday July 31. 2024. He is preceded in death by his wife Denise (O’Reilly) Hogan. He is survived by his two daughters Anne Nedilsky and her husband Bohdan of West Milford, NJ., Patricia Kile and her husband Gregory of Sea Girt, N.J. and his four beloved grandchildren; Christine (Jenya), Michael, Katherine, Kevin and many nieces/nephews, great nieces/nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents; Philip and Mary (nee O’Brien) Hogan and his siblings Theresa, Joseph and Vincent.
James was born in Knock, County Mayo, Ireland in 1933. He emigrated to New York in 1935. After graduating as valedictorian of his high school class, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served in the Korean War as a Radio Operator. He proudly became a US citizen in Soul Korea. After his honorable discharge, he studied at Mechanics Institute and began his career at Consolidated Edison and retired as General Forman of the Bronx Electrical Division.
Shortly thereafter, he met the love of his life, Denise and they were married in 1957. They resided in High Bridge, Bronx, NY. They moved their family to Dumont, NJ and then retired to Holiday Heights 20 years ago.
Jim was a former Parishioner of St. Mary’s RC Church in Dumont, NJ where he was a member of the choir and Knights of Columbus. He was very proud of his Irish heritage and was an active member of The Bergen Irish Association. He was a Parishioner of St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River, NJ.
Jim’s passion for helping others led him to become a bus driver for Bergen County Special Services and a certified EMT and ambulance driver for the Holiday City First Aid Squad, Toms River. He enjoyed gardening, playing golf, bowling, and fixing cars, radios, televisions and anything with a motor. He showed us all how to live a good life with commitment, love and dedication to faith and family.
The Family will receive friends and family on Tuesday August 6th from 3 pm to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 7th at 11:30 am at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River, NJ. Burial will follow to St. Joseph Cemetery , Toms River, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Parkinson’s Foundation.
