James P. Meehan, 86, of Holiday City, Berkeley Twp., NJ, passed away Sunday, March, 28, 2021.
Born in Manhattan, NY, he lived in Staten Island, NY before moving to Berkeley 23 years ago.
James was a Police Officer for the B&O Railroad in Staten Island, NY for 20 years then was a Security Guard for General Motors in New York City for 20 years.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. During his time in the military he boxed on the U.S Army Boxing Team. He started boxing at a young age with the PAL. He became a professional boxer in 1956 where he fought in the Golden Gloves winning a silver medal. James was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid NY Jets and NY Mets fan and enjoyed watching Chicago P.D.
James was predeceased by his son, Edward Meehan, in 2018.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gloria (nee Federico), six children Margaret Gulliksen and her husband George, James Meehan and his wife Mary, Eugene Meehan and his wife Elizabeth, Richard Meehan and his wife Yong-Cha, Maurice Meehan and his wife Lisa, Gloria Zazula and her husband Denis, a brother Edward Meehan, 15 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 2, 2021 2:00pm – 5:00pm with a funeral service to be offered at 4:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.
