John A. Basile 90 of Monterey Beach, NJ passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025.
He was known as Mr. Fishbonz to all that knew him. John was born in Bronx NY, lived in Wayne NJ before moving to the beach 25 years ago. John attended Xavier High School and Fordham University. After graduating in 1956 he served as a Captain in the United States Air Force as a member of the 75th Fighter Interceptor Squadron stationed in Presque Isle Maine, where he flew F89’s, known as the Flying Tigers. After he left the military he worked for AT&T.
John learned to fish soon after he could walk. He was a knowledgeable fisherman and loved to teach people the joy of fishing. He was an avid Yankee fan and a loyal member of Ortley Beach Moose Lodge 399.
John was a beloved husband to Patti loving father to John Mark, Lisanne Lawless her husband Kevin and Wendy Andresen and her husband John. Cherished grandfather of John Conor and Liam Patrick. Beloved brother to Francis Morreale.
All services were private.
A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, November 15th at St. Veronica's Church, Howell NJ at 10 am
