John F. Sedlak

John F. Sedlak, 81, of Waretown, NJ, passed away Friday, August 11, 2023.

Born in Orange, NJ, John was raised in the Vailsburg section of Newark, NJ and graduated from Our Lady of the Valley High School in Orange, NJ.  Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed at Fort Meade, MD.  He served for 4 ½ years before being honorably discharged, attaining the rank of Corporal.

Following his military service, he attended the University of Maryland, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Agronomy.

John worked for the engineering firm, Messano, in Toms River, NJ, FEMA, then the New Jersey DEP in Robbinsville, NJ.

He was predeceased by his parents, Stephen and Ruth Sedlak, and his brother, Charles Sedlak.

John is survived by his sister and brother in law Rosemary and Richard Paster of Union, NJ, his four nieces Donna Scallero of Florham Park, NJ, Tracy Brown and her husband Coady of Mountainside, NJ, Susanne Barba of Florida and Patricia Schiffl and her husband Rob of Cranford, NJ, and eight great nieces and nephews Brielle Barba, PJ Barba, Coady Brown, Ashlyn Brown, Samantha Schiffl, Giovanna Scallero, RJ Schiffl and Allison Schiffl.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday 4:00pm – 7:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals O’Connell Chapel, 706 Rte 9, Bayville, NJ.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Monday 10:00am at St. Pius X RC Church, Forked River, NJ.  Burial will be private.
