John P. Slavik

John P. Slavik, 94, of Whiting, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2020.

Born in Czechoslovakia on October 15, 1926 to the late Stephen and Mary Slavik, John immigrated to the US where he proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. With unwavering patriotism, he was so proud of his country and his service.

He taught his family the importance of hard work, as he was a tailor by trade, and managed the alterations department of Lane Bryant in New York City.

John was a loving husband and devoted father, always putting his family first. Family and faith were the two most important values in his life. His wife of 58 years, Pauline, who he called his sweetheart, was the love of his life. They built a beautiful family and life together. He will be greatly missed and the love he shared with his family will live on forever.

John is predeceased by his wife Pauline, his parents and four siblings. He is survived by his son, John Slavik, Jr., and his wife Candi of Manahawkin; daughters, Lorraine Barry and her husband Patrick of Ocean Beach; Christine Dutka and her husband John of Manahawkin; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Barry and his wife Karitssa, Jennifer Zick and her husband Jeff, Michelle Dutka, Cassidy and her husband Joseph Labita; and 3 great grandchildren, Brianna Barry and Callen and Maya Zick.
