John "Jack" Carroll Obituary

John Patrick (Jack) Carroll, 85 of Toms River, NJ died on Thursday July 31,2025. Jack was born on February 23, 1940 in Scranton, PA, to Frank and Rose Carroll, and grew up in Jersey City, NJ. Jack joined the US Navy in 1957 and served until 1961. He was proud to say that he sailed around the world with the Navy, and he remained in the military reserves for many years, serving with the Seabees and the US Air Force. After marriage, he moved to Toms River, NJ, and he and Leonora raised seven children and coached numerous youth sports teams. Jack worked in construction before becoming the Coordinator of Buildings and Grounds for the Toms River School System.

After retiring from the TR Schools, Jack stayed engaged with his community by driving a bus for high school sports teams, working at the local boat store, volunteering at the military base, transferring cars for dealerships, serving at a funeral home, and running patrols for the Coast Guard Auxiliary. In his spare time, Jack could be found in his boat on the bay, or at one of his grandchildren’s games, sharing the wealth, if wealth can be measured in Wintergreen Lifesavers. He is predeceased by Leonora, his wife of over 60 years. He is survived by his 7 children: John, Michael, Kevin, Brian, Keith, Catherine MacAvoy, and Christine Narozniak, and his 13 grandchildren.
