Jose Gonzales Hernandez

Jose Gonzales Hernandez, of Toms River, NJ, passed away peacefully in the presence of loved ones on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born in Mapanique, Candaba Pampanga, Philippines to Consolacion and Esteban Hernandez, Jose was the youngest of 9 children. He graduated from Far Eastern University with a degree in Chemistry. It was there he met the love of his life, Edna, who he chased across the ocean to the US in 1970 and married the following year in Jersey City. They later moved their young family to be raised the suburbs of  Green Brook, NJ before moving to Toms River in 1995.

Jose was a Quality Control Supervisor at Anheuser Busch in Newark, NJ for 12 years after which he pursued his dream to be a business owner by acquiring and running Midas Muffler franchises in Brick, NJ and Neptune, NJ, before retiring in 2001.

Joe, as Jose was often called by those who knew him best, was often met with a big smile on his face and a friendly disposition. His greatest joys were his family and friends, particularly gathering at their home around his favorite meals lovingly prepared by his wife. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, particularly his vegetable gardens in the growing season. Later in life, nothing pleased him more than regularly spending time with his grandchildren. It brought him the greatest joy watching them grow up.

Jose is survived by his wife of 54 years Edna (nee Tuazon) Hernandez, his two children Cindy Marrinan and her husband Sean of Chatham, NJ, Arvin Hernandez and his wife Faith of South Plainfield, NJ, three grandchildren Aidan Marrinan, Eva Marrinan and Noah Hernandez and three siblings Diosdado, Abundia and Consuelo.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 12, 2025 5:00pm – 9:00pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, September 13, 2025 12:00pm at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Berkeley Twp.  Entombment to follow at St. Maximilian Kolbe  Christ the King Mausoleum, Berkeley Twp., NJ.
