Joseph R. Inserra, 71, of Toms River passed from this life July 20, 2021 after a long fight with cancer. He was born September 30, 1949 in Passaic, N.J. and later moved to Lodi and Staten Island, N.Y.
A graduate of NCE (later NJIT) and Fairleigh Dickinson University, he worked for the US Army CECOM division at Ft. Monmouth as an electronic project engineer for 30 yrs where he won many awards and helped earn a patent in Line of Sight Propagation. After retirement, he earned a teaching certificate in mathematics and taught for several years including as an adjunct professor at Ocean County College and Monmouth University. He also worked at Lowe's Toms River and could be located by the sound of his laughter. He played Santa there and at St. Justin's Church where he was also an altar server and taught CCD.
He was the only child and predeceased by his parents Ralph Inserra and Rose (Rosa) Sarese Inserra.
He was a loving husband to his wife of nearly 45 years, Karen Bisogna Inserra and devoted father to Dawn Inserra and Cindy McDevitt and father-in-law to William Distanislao and the late Nelson McDevitt. He especially loved spending time and laughs with his granddaughter Kylie McDevitt and taking long walks on the beach with his loyal dog, Cosmo. He was a wonderful handyman and always eager to lend a helping hand. He is dearly loved and will be missed all the days of our lives.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Monday July 26, 2021 from 9am to 9:45 at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 995 Fischer Blvd. Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10am Monday July 26, 2021 at St. Justin the Martyr RC Church Toms River, NJ with burial to follow at St. Nicholas Cemetery Lodi, NJ.
