Joseph Arcadius Kilcomons, affectionately known as “Boo” by his loved ones, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12th, at the age of 95.
Joe was born on January 12, 1929, in South Amboy, NJ, to William and Mary Kilcomons. He was the second oldest of 11 children. Joe was a United States Marine from 1947 through 1951 and remained committed to the Marine Corps throughout his life. He was a volunteer for Toys for Tots and the Semper Five 5K in Seaside Park, and a flag was flown in Afghanistan in his honor. His dedication and service to his country and community didn’t end there. Joe was a police officer in Sayreville for over 40 years, retiring in 1994 as deputy chief of police. Joe also served as a Sayreville firefighter and an usher at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Seaside Park.
Most importantly, Joe was a family man. It was his favorite job and responsibility, and he loved his family more than anything. On May 28, 1955, Joe married Ann Marie Yurkonis. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Together, Joe and Ann raised two daughters, Michelle and Denise, and were blessed with four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
In 1995, Joe and Ann retired to Seaside Park, NJ, where Joe became the unofficial Mayor by neighbors and beachgoers alike. He could often be seen in his rocking chair greeting everyone who walked by with a warm welcome.
Joe was a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend, and neighbor. His generosity, kindness, and sense of humor left a positive impact on everyone he met. He enjoyed telling stories, making people laugh, and bringing them together. Joe was an avid baseball player who loved the Boston Red Sox. Rumor has it that he was the best left-handed pitcher the Marine Corps and the Boston Red Sox Fantasy Camp had ever seen. Regardless, he was everyone’s biggest fan, and you always wanted him on your team or coaching you through life.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Ann Marie; his daughters, Michelle (Chip) and Denise (Leonard); grandchildren, Meghan (Simon), James (Megan), Caitlin (Leo), and Kelly (William); his great-grandchildren, Joseph, Elizabeth, Welles, Charlie, Benjamin, and Leo; his siblings: John and Edward; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, William and Mary, and his siblings Norman, William “Roy”, Barbara Turner, Richard, Sister Mae, Daniel, Thomas, and Warren.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals 809 NW Central Avenue, Seaside Park at 9 am on July 30, 2024. A celebration of life Memorial Mass will follow at St. Catharine of Siena Church in Seaside Park at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Tri-Boro Seaside Park First Aid Squad.
