Lucine Nelson Obituary

Lucine B. Nelson, 84, of Toms River, NJ passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024 with her loving family by her side.

Daughter of Thomas and Marianna Tukiendorf, she was raised and grew up in Perth Amboy and Hopelawn, NJ.

She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Perth Amboy, Class of 1958 and Pace University, New York City in 1962 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree.  Also, she received her Masters Degree in Education from Trenton State College in 1980, now known as The College of New Jersey.

She began her teaching career in 1962 at #10 School, the 21st Century School in Perth Amboy, NJ, now known as the Dr. Herbert Richardson, where she dedicated 37 years of her life to a successful career doing what she loved best.

She married William E. Nelson, the love of her life, in 1963, her husband of 61 years.  In 1993, she received the Governor’s Teacher Recognition Award from the NJ State Department of Education for having made an exceptional contribution as a NJ Public School Teacher.

Lucine was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Marianna Tukiendorf and her beloved first granddaughter Abygale Hope Nelson.

Surviving is her husband, William E. Nelson of Toms River, NJ, and her two devoted children Eric W. Nelson and his wife Crystal of Collegeville, PA and Marla K. Nelson and her husband Wheeler Moorman of New Orleans, LA.  Lucine also leaves behind her four wonderful grandchildren whom she especially enjoyed, Adreanne and Alec Nelson and Maxwell and Adele Moorman.  She is also survived by her loving brother Victor Tukiendorf and his wife Stasha of Toms River, NJ and sisters Helene Sul of Carteret, NJ and Maria Venditti and brother in law James of Hillsborough Miles, FL.

 Lucine will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews and all who knew her, but never forgotten.

The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, August 17, 2024 8:00am – 10:00am at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 10:30am at St. Joseph RC Church, Toms River.  Burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.  The Repass will be held 1pm at Artisan's Restaurant.
