Marvin Milner Obituary

Marvin Milner passed away peacefully of old age on Rosh Hashanah in Toms River, NJ. His parents, Isidore (Ike) and Ida Milner, were Jewish immigrants from Ukraine. Marvin grew up in the tenements of The Bronx with his siblings, Millie, Stanley, Donald, and a sister lost to whooping cough in childhood. Marvin completed high school. He was denied a chance to serve in World War II because of asthma. He went to work making unforms for the military and became a skilled cutter in the schmatta trade. He was a staunch union man. He married Renee and they had two children, Joseph and Corey. The family moved to New Jersey where Marvin learned to fish and had beloved pet dogs. After retirement, he missed being busy and started a window blind business. Renee and Marvin traveled to Europe and around the US. As a widower, he hit the jackpot when he met Helen, his second wife, at BINGO. At the wedding, the rabbi pointed out that between them they had nearly 100 years of successful marriage experience. They had a happy life together enjoying family visits, cruises, cooking, and trips to the casinos.

Marvin set a positive example for others to follow as he advanced into his 90’s. He endured loss and old age with grace. He lived his philosophy which was “Don’t worry. It will all work out.” He shared his secrets to enjoying old age; laughs with the guys over breakfast, supplements, kvetching about the government, Bingo, Chinese food, and telling stories.

Marvin is survived by his nephews Gary Levine, Peter Levine, David Milner and sister-in-law Debra Gussman. He will be missed also by his stepdaughter Arlene Rogo and her husband Chris Barberi, Step-granddaughters Cassandra Rockenfeller Owens and her husband Aaron and Amanda Jensen and her husband Joseph and Step-grandson Ness Barberi.
