Mary (Burns) Lindsey

Mary Bernardine Lindsey (nee Burns) passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2025 at Community Medical Center in Toms River with her family and her faithful AKK Mischka by her side.

Mary was born in Bayonne, NJ and grew up between Staten Island and Bayonne, she graduated from 8th grade from Our Lady of the Sea school and went on to Bayonne High School. She graduated from BHS in 1967 and started her working career at Maidenform, Inc.  She left Maidenform after 21 years moving to the Central Adirondacks with her husband, Thomas J. Lindsey.

In the Adirondacks, she worked for the DiOrios (Donald, Marie, Bob & Margaret) in their family-run supermarket as a cashier and office help for 10 years. Following that, she and her husband moved to Afton, NY to enjoy their retirement.  After her husband passed in 2019, Mary moved back to NJ to be closer to family. 

Mary was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Dewey Old Forge Chapter #449 where she served as secretary for 5 years.

Mary was predeceased by her loving husband, Thomas; both of her parents, Joseph and Ruth Burns; her sister and best friend, Carolyn James; her brothers, Donald and Kenneth; her nephew, Russell James; her niece, Judi James; and a special cousin, Rosalie Marron plus numerous aunts and uncles. 

She is survived by her brothers George (and his wife Candita) and Neil; two nieces Jill Scanlon and Keri Urban; six nephews William James, Joseph Burns, Jason Burns, Thomas Burns, Neil Burns Jr and Joseph M Cieckiewicz; and their families as well as one special goddaughter, Angel Dobke and very close friend, Teresa Rose.

A visitation will take place for friends and family to pay their respects at the Timothy E. Ryan Home For Funerals located at 145 Saint Catherine Boulevard, Toms River, NJ 08755 on Thursday, May 15, from the hours of 3 pm to 7 pm.  A graveside service is scheduled for 11 am at the Moravian Cemetery located at 2205 Richmond Road, Staten Island, NY 10306 on Friday, May 16, 2025
