Mary L. (Nitti) Palombo

January 29, 1923 ~ September 12, 2021 (age 98)

Mary Louise Palombo, (nee Nitti), was born 29 January, 1923 in Pittsburgh, PA. She passed away peacefully in her Toms River home of 58 years on 12 September 2021. She was a member of St Justin’s Parish. She was 98 years old.

She is survived by her four children, Marion Tunney of Seaside Heights, Sylvia Francis, Karen Middleton and Eugene Palombo of Toms River, NJ and their families.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1949 and her Master’s Degree from Glassboro, (Rowen), in 1979. She became a member of the faculty at St Joseph High School in Toms River, (Donavan Catholic), in 1963 until 1989. She began her teaching career with Mathematics and Science and went on to teach subjects such as Psychology and even Spanish. She became a member of the guidance department and eventually became Director of the Guidance Department and then Head of the Auxiliary Services Department before she retired. She went on to work with the guidance department of Ocean County College and tutored advanced math at Georgian Court College after retirement.

Mary Louise was a loving, gracious, and intelligent person. She was an unstoppable and committed person. Her family and husband of 54 years were the center of her life at home. “Macaroni Sundays” with our large family sitting around the table will be ingrained in our hearts forever. Her table gathered five generations of family in her lifetime.

The legacy of kindness was passed from her to her children and their children. Mary Palombo had 4 children, 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She will never be forgotten by her family and friends, and the many students whose lives she helped shape and guide.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 9:30am to 10:30am at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 995 Fischer Blvd., Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am, Thursday September 16, 2021 at St. Justin the Martyr RC Church with burial to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Toms River.
