Maryann (Harraka) VanOrden

Maryann VanOrden (Harraka), 72 of Berkeley Township, passed peacefully from this life on Saturday, April 13, 2024 surrounded by family.

Maryann was born September 2, 1951 in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Albert and Agnes Harraka.  She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother.  Maryann's affinity for table games, specifically Rummikub and Scrabble, was evident to all who played with her.  With a keen eye for strategy and a mischievous smile, she would skillfully maneuver her tiles, keeping her opponents on their toes until she emerged victorious. Additionally, the bright lights of the casino and the camaraderie of bingo halls enriched her life with excitement and cherished memories. Her passion for games brought joy and laughter to countless gatherings with family and friends.

Maryann is predeceased by her parents, Albert Harraka and Agnes Siouffi Harraka.

Maryann is survived by her husband, James VanOrden; daughter, Deanna Ward and her husband Kieran of Lincoln Park; son, Todd Rutler and his wife Robyn of Mount Arlington; and step-daughters Melissa VanOrden of Newton; Cathy Regenthal and her husband Kurt of Newton; brother, Albert Harraka of Clifton; sisters, Laurene Noah and her husband Lester of Sea Girt; Kathleen Curnow and her husband Roy of Spring Lake Heights; Donna Bennett and her husband Greg of Hillsborough; and her 6 grandchildren, Evan, Jason, Amelia, Sebastian, Juliana and Lena.

Maryann's passing leaves a void in the lives of her family and friends, but her vibrant spirit and indomitable energy will live on in their hearts forever. May she rest in peace, knowing that she brought joy and excitement to all who had the privilege of knowing her.

A Memorial Gathering will take place on Saturday, April 27 from 2pm to 4pm, with a Service to begin at 3pm at Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 145 St. Catherine Blvd., Toms River.
