Maureen Darcy Obituary

Maureen F. Darcy (Fenelon), 81, of Silver Beach, New Jersey and Ocean Ridge, Florida died peacefully surrounded by friends and family on Saturday November 30, 2024.

Born in Passaic, NJ, Maureen lived in Glen Rock, Ridgewood, Franklin Lakes, and every summer in Silver Beach. She always vacationed at her home in Ocean Ridge, and eventually became a snowbird, spending her winters there and summers in Silver Beach.

Maureen was the proud owner and operator of Irish Eyes Imports in Ridgewood, NJ, where she made annual pilgrimages to Ireland to source the finest jewelry, Waterford crystal, furniture, and decor. Those who knew her often heard fond stories of her sourcing adventures. Additionally, she served on the board of the Silver Beach Association and Turtle Beach Association in Ocean Ridge.

Maureen loved soaking up the sun, reading on the beach and spending time with family and friends. Nothing made Maureen happier than a full house at Silver Beach. Those lucky to know her dearly, have spent many a night in that house, sleeping anywhere they possibly could, just to be a part of the lively atmosphere. Meal staples included garlic crab & lobster, chicken spaghetti, Colonial Bakery crumb cake or rolls, and anything from Joe Leones. You would never leave hungry, maybe with a headache from too much fun, but never hungry.

In her later years, Maureen could often be found reading outside with her dogs, greeting everyone who passed by on their way to the beach. Her sweet dog, Molly, was known as the “Mayor” of Silver Beach. Maureen was beloved by all who met her. Her beautiful Irish Eyes Are Smiling from above.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, John Francis Darcy, and her daughter, Kelley Ann Strandberg. She is survived by her daughter, Denise (Paul) Van Deventer; two sons, Sean Darcy and Timothy Darcy; her brother, Patrick (Mary Anne) Fenelon; her sister, Deborah Dennison; her niece, Michel (Ryan) Fells; seven grandchildren: Brendan (Caitlin) Van Deventer, Connor Van Deventer, James Van Deventer, Darcy Van Deventer, Katie Van Deventer, Eryn Darcy, and Bridget Darcy; and two great-grandchildren, Rory Van Deventer and Bridie Van Deventer.
