Maureen C O'Connor

Maureen C. O’Connor, 85, of Toms River, NJ passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020. Born and raised in Elizabeth, NJ, she moved to Toms River in 1998. Maureen graduated from St. Mary’s of the Assumption High School in Elizabeth in 1951.  She served as the treasurer for its alumni organization, the Hiltopper Club for several years. 

Maureen attended St. Michael’s School of Nursing in Newark, NJ where she graduated with an RN in1956.  She worked at the Elizabeth General Hospital for several years before transferring to the Elizabeth Department of Health where she worked as a Public Health nurse.  She was a dedicated parishioner of St Justin RC Church in Toms River. Maureen was very proud of her Irish heritage and was a very active member of several Irish societies such as: The Nugent’s Association and Morley & McGovern Association.  She was awarded Irish Woman of the year by the Nugent Association.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband John Joseph O’Connor, her parents John Joseph and Brigid McGuire (Gannon), as well as two brothers; Thomas McGuire, and Charles “Bob” McGuire.

Maureen is survived by her loving family; sons; Thomas and his wife Patricia O’Connor of South River, NJ; Kevin O’Connor of Toms River, NJ; daughters; Maureen MacDonald of Toms River, NJ; Theresa and her husband Greg Walker of Old Bridge, NJ; Beth and her husband Brad Kaufman of Burlington, NJ; and Kathy and her husband Ken Neuhauser of Columbus, NJ; as well as six grandchildren; Anthony O’Connor, Kelly O’Connor, Liam Walker, Donovan Kaufman, Ryan O'Connor, and Molly Walker, and one great grandchild Leia Seymour.  Maureen is also survived by her siblings Elaine Jensen of Valhalla, NY and John McGuire of Toms River, NJ. 

The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, August 17, 2020 from 3 to 7pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 995 Fischer Blvd, Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at 9:30am at St Justin the Martyr RC Church, 975 Fischer Blvd, Toms River, NJ. Burial will follow to St Joseph Cemetery, 56 Cedar Grove Rd, Toms River, NJ.
