Michael J. DeRiggi, 95, of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2021. Born in Newark, NJ, he lived in Nutley, NJ before moving to Toms River 35 years ago. He proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army 83rd Infantry Division during World War II and he was awarded a Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his service. Michael then established a career as an Elevator Mechanic, owning his own business, Newark Elevator Maintenance and Service Company. He was a dedicated parishioner of St Justin the Martyr RCC in Toms River, past President of the Nutley Little League, and past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus-Mt Carmel, Council 6195. Michael was a dedicated loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was loved and admired by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his beloved son Anthony; his parents Joseph and Virginia DeRiggi and his siblings Emil, Robert, Bridget, and Delphine.
Michael is survived by his loving wife Pasqualena “Lee” DeRiggi; his children Virginia and William O’Boyle of Toms River, NJ, Joseph and Ginny DeRiggi of Barnegat, NJ, JoAnn and Brad Weigel of Toms River, NJ, Michael and Maria DeRiggi of Toms River, NJ and Carolyn DeRiggi of Somerset, NJ; and the pride and joy and loves of his life his ten grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 4 to 8pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 995 Fischer Blvd., Toms River, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, April 22, 2021 at 9:30am at St Justin the Martyr RC Church, 997 Fischer Blvd., Toms River, NJ.
