Obituary

Michael L. Rubbinaccio, “Mickey,” 89, joined his loving wife of 70 years, Liana “Lee”, on Saturday, April 29 while surrounded by his close family. He was predeceased by his parents Paul S. & Elsie M. Rubbinaccio, siblings Paul “Blackie,” Alice DePinto, and Louis. Born in Hoboken, NJ, he lived there and Union City before moving to Toms River.

Mike loved sports, especially basketball. He was an outstanding All County basketball and baseball player at St. Michael’s High School in Union City and averaged 15 points per game at St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, holding the record for consecutive free throws for over 20 years. He later went on to coach at St. Michael’s High School in Union City for many years. He was inducted into the Hudson County Hall of Fame, St. Michael’s Hall of Fame, and the Hoboken Hall of Fame.

He and his brothers owned the Camelot Restaurant in Union City for 20 years where family and friends gathered to enjoy wonderful times. He was also employed for many years by Wakefern Food Corp./Shop-Rite as a warehouse supervisor and was loved by all his coworkers.

A tireless fundraiser for ALS, he sponsored many walks in honor of his brother “Blackie,” raised thousands of dollars, and hosted parties after the walks at his home.

He was a devout Catholic and his love of cooking and having his family around was his passion. He was kind, respectful, and caring, brought smiles to all he came in contact with, and was a friend to all.

He was the devoted father of Michael and wife Marie, Stephen and wife Susan, Robert and wife Marjorie, Paul and wife Angela, and John. Cherished grandfather of 11, Michael, Joseph, Stephen and wife Sharon, Lauren, Matthew, Robert and wife Jamie, Eric and fiancé Kei, Kyle and fiancé Nina, Marc, David, Lisa and husband Dan; the doting great-grandfather of Gabriella, Stephen, Michael, and Benjamin Rubbinaccio. Treasured uncle to his many nieces and nephews.

His family and friends will truly miss him.
