Myles J. Hergert Obituary
Myles J. Hergert, 92, of Forked River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, surrounded by his family. He was born on July 1, 1933, in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Louis and Emilie (Rapasky) Hergert. Myles - affectionately known as “Mickey” in his youth - was a man whose life was defined by an unwavering commitment to faith, family, and hard work.
A talented and industrious man, Myles built a multi-faceted career as a carpenter, building inspector, and then Realtor/Broker. In his business, The Hergert Agency, he found great joy in helping others fulfill their dreams of homeownership. His hands could fix almost anything, and he took immense pride in his craftsmanship. His dedication to his community was equally robust; he served with distinction as the Linden Third Ward Councilman, President of the Greater Eastern Union County Board of Realtors, and Vice President of the New Jersey State Real Estate Commission.
Myles was a faith-filled servant of God. For many years, he gave his time to his church, including being chairman of the Saint Elizabeth Parish Fiesta. He was a beautiful example of faith to his family and Community.
Myles spent the majority of his life in Linden, where he and his beloved wife, Marion, raised their family from 1959 until 1996. He built a home in Waretown, where his family enjoyed their summers, and he and “his bride” eventually retired. They spent their last years together in Pheasant Run in Forked River. Myles was predeceased by Marion, his devoted wife of 66 years.
While he found joy in life’s simple pleasures—polka dancing, gardening, playing pinochle, fishing, and family cruises—nothing compared to the happiness he felt when surrounded by "the babies." His sparkling blue eyes lit up with the arrival of every new grandchild and great-grandchild.
He was the devoted father of four daughters: Lauren Filipek (John), Kathleen Biggs (David), Marion Kucharski (Kevin), and Janice Hergert. He was the proud grandfather of ten: Caitlyn Biggs, Megan (Richard Savner), Myles Biggs (Claire), John Filipek (Laura), Danielle Biggs (Alex Peck), Jessica (Anthony Silvia), Kevin Kucharski (Sara), Kristen (Peter Licata), Alison (Viliam Varhol), and Emilie Guinan; and the loving great-grandfather of ten: Mason and Noah Biggs, Kennedy, Richard and Amelia Savner, Lily and John Filipek, Lucas and Hazel Kucharski and Jacob Varhol.
Myles was predeceased by his siblings Joan (John Sanford), Lois (John Maleckar), Mary (Leroy Henry), and John Hergert. He is survived by his siblings Emilie (+Ed) Ahearn, Bernadette (+Arthur Gross), Louis & Gerry Hergert, Beth and Ted Simonelli, and Raymond & Susan Hergert.
To his family, he was a steady anchor and a loyal protector. His legacy carries on in the lives he touched and the family he and Marion created.
In lieu of flowers please make donations in Myles’ name to Saint Mary’s Church: 747 West Bay Ave, Barnegat, NJ 08005.
