Peter “Pete” Joseph Hettmann, 89 of Bayville, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Peter was born to the late Peter and Marion Hettmann in Cranford, NJ on November 6, 1935. After graduating high school, Pete joined the Army and was honorably discharged in 1956. He continued in the Army Reserves until 1962.
While raising three sons with his former wife Elizabeth Fullop Hettmann, he owned and operated Bardy Farms Shell and later Wonder Muffler and Brake. Throughout his life, he loved to be with and talk about family. After he met his long time companion Melda Schwalbach together they enjoyed spending time at the shore in Bayville and visiting both of their families in CA, FL, SC, TX and VA.
Pete was an avid college sports fan and enjoyed watching Duke and VA Tech games. The number of Giants sweatshirts he wore was also a clear indicator that he loved the NY Giants.
Pete is predeceased by his parents, Peter Hettmann and Marion (neé Schultz) Hettmann as well as his brother, William. He is survived by his loving companion of 29 years, Melda; his sons Peter Hettmann, and his wife Toni Ann; Michael Hettmann and his wife Dorothy; and Joseph Hettmann; his seven grandchildren: Danielle Breann, and her husband Charles, Peter, Katelyn, Michelle, Austin and Ava; and his three precious great grandchildren Emersyn, Braydan, and Kinsley. Pete was loved by all and will be missed by many including Melda’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
