Peter Sanchirico Obituary

Peter Joseph Sanchirico is remembered as a husband, dad, grandpa, brother, friend, captain, avid Jets and Knicks fan, puzzle master, sea glass hunter, soppressata, pretzel, and candy lover. He was also passionate about animals, history, and politics.

Peter was born and proudly grew up in the Bronx, NY. He served with the Army in Vietnam and shortly after his return met his future wife of 53 years- Susan Margaret. He and Susan moved to Spring Valley for a few years and then raised their children, Joseph Peter and Alison Margaret in Putnam Valley- living there for ~40 years.

Peter worked for the Federal Reserve Bank, on Wall Street (where he met Susan), at Montefiore Hospital, and dedicated many years to the Westchester County Department of Transportation, ending his career as a manager at Ehrbar.

More importantly, he captained several boats throughout his life, all named “The Answer” and was passionate about boating the Hudson River. He was a member of Seaweed Yacht Club, Garrison Yacht Club, Westerly Marina, and lastly Peekskill Yacht Club (PYC), where he earned the title “Yard Dog” for all of his dedication and work for the club. Peter fulfilled a long time dream when he and Susan completed The Great Loop- boating for more than a year- up the Hudson River, across the Erie Canal, down the Mississippi River, into the Gulf, across Florida, up the Intercoastal and various waterways on the eastern seaboard back to PYC.

In his final chapter he moved to Lavallette, NJ, after building a new house on the property his parents bought back in 1976. Lavallette was dear to his heart and he was a proud resident.

Peter was a lively man, strong-willed, with a commanding presence, as well as a lesser-seen soft side.

He is survived by his wife Susan, son Joe and his wife Rochelle and their daughters Adele and Camile, daughter Ali and her husband Jeff and their daughter Kaylana, and brother John and his wife Annika.

As per Peter’s wishes, there will be no formal services. Please No flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the
