Philip Smith Obituary

Philip G. Smith, 81, born in Perth Amboy NJ to David and Ann Smith, of Normandy Beach, NJ, passed away Thursday, March 6, 2025, at home with his family.

Philip lived in Piscataway, where he raised his children, before moving to Normandy Beach in 1996.

Philip was a graduate of Bloomfield College and a brother of the Rho Sigma Delta fraternity. He was a long-time owner of Ace Sign Company in Perth Amboy which was started by his father in 1928. The company has now been passed down to his children.

Philip is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Patricia, and his three beloved children: David and his wife Shanti, Philip and his wife Michelle, and Dana and her husband Chris. He is also lovingly remembered by his sister, Phyllis Ciszewski, and her husband Jim, along with his many nieces and nephews. Philip took immense pride in his eight cherished grandchildren — Brielle, Lexie, Corey, Ethan, Bianca, Pyper, Payton, and Sophia — who brought endless joy to his life.

In addition to his parents, David and Ann Smith, he is predeceased by his sister, Kathryn Barboe.

Philip was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Lavallette, NJ.

Philip found his greatest joy in boating, fishing, and spending time with his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. He cherished the summer months and all the simple pleasures that came with life at the shore. Philip had a passion for traveling, always seeking out warm beaches to escape the cold, but his happiest moments were spent at his tiki bar, surrounded by friends, family, and laughter. He built his bayside home and life on the beach for the enjoyment of his children and grandchildren. His warm spirit and love for life were undeniable, and he made everyone feel welcome. Philip believed in celebrating every moment, and his memory will continue to be honored in that same light.

The family will be announcing a Celebration of Life in Philip’s honor for close family and friends.
